2. Unity Ads

Before Unity Ads shows any ad, you need:

A free Unity account
Nothing else: it is already in every app

If you stop half-way nothing breaks: Unity Ads simply does not bid, and Google keeps filling your ads as before.

You will copy these into AdMob:

Steps

Tick each step when done. Your ticks are saved on this device.

Sign up at login.unity.com, open the Unity dashboard, go to Projects and click New.
Open Unity Ads Monetization, click Get started, choose I will use Mediation and pick Google AdMob as the Mediation Partner.
Pick Bidding for placement setup, fill in the form with your Android app and Play Store link, and click Add project.
Copy the Android Game ID shown for the project.
Go to Unity Ads Monetization > Placements, select the project and click Add ad unit, choose Android and the ad format, enter a placement name, click Add ad unit and copy the Placement ID.
In AdMob go to Mediation, click Create mediation group (or open one), choose the format and Android, and add your ad units.
In the Bidding card click Add ad source, pick Unity Ads, and accept the partnership/agreement prompt.
Click Add mapping, enter the Game ID and Placement ID, click Done, then Save.
Add Unity's app-ads.txt list to your file and add Unity to the GDPR and US state ad partner lists in AdMob.

Watch out for

Use the ANDROID Game ID (each project has separate Apple and Google Play Game IDs); the iOS one gives no fill.

Waterfall is gone since Jan 31, 2026; old waterfall mappings stop serving, so recreate placements as bidding.

For age treatment Unity needs the project marked Mixed Audience in the Unity Monetization dashboard.

app-ads.txt

Unity dashboard > Organization settings > App-ads.txt: the App-Ads URL field shows the full list of authorized sellers in the right format; copy the whole list into your app-ads.txt (Unity says to re-check it monthly). Unity says banner demand drops sharply without app-ads.txt. The exact unity.com line is generated per organization (not verified here as a fixed string).

Who pays you

Google pays you, inside your normal AdMob payment (Unity: all earnings from SDK bidding are paid out by Google).
